The London Zoo is managed and run by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). ZSL is a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. The London Zoo, covers 36 acres of area and homes more than 750 animal species, many of which are endangered.
Visitors’ entry fee contributes to the ZSL’s conservation projects across the world. Animals hosted in the zoo ranges from the smallest monkey to the tall giraffe. Regular events include an 'animals in action display' and keeper talks.
London Zoo has plenty of cafés and picnic spots. The zoo offers educational and craft activities as well as an ongoing programme of exhibitions and events including exploring science and conservation.
Recent additions to the Zoo include a re-vamped penguin habitat, a new aviary, a new komodo dragon house and an extended meerkat family. The permanent walk-through aviary makes it possible to observe exotic birds - such as Scarlet Ibis, Abdim's Storks or Blue-bellied Rollers.
The Meet the Monkeys attraction is a must see in the Zoo. Visitors are guided by zoo staff, to walk through an enclosure that recreates the natural habitat of black-capped Bolivian squirrel monkeys. There is also an Outback exhibit which features wallabies and emus and illustrates how animals survive in conditions of harsh heat. Allow
With so much to see and do, a visit to ZSL London Zoo is the perfect day out for people of all ages.
