London Aquarium

E-mail Print PDF
If you love underwater, this is a place you should not miss when you’re in London. There is a collection of stingrays, sharks, trout, and even piranhas, and you will also see divers working underwater from afar. There are many tanks where you can view an exotic collection of different types of fish.

The ground floor of County Hall is dedicated to the London Aquarium on the South Bank of the River Thames, near the London Eye. It was opened in 1997. There are around 350 species of fish in water tanks which are spread out into three floors and 14 different zones (freshwater stream, Atlantic upper, rivers and ponds, Pacific upper, Indian Ocean, Atlantic lower, touch pool, temperate waters, Pacific lower, coral reef, invertebrates, tropical freshwater, mangrove and rainforest).

In April 2008, Merlin Entertainments purchased the aquarium and it will be rebranded in late 2008 to become part of their 'Sea Life' brand.
